Kids … and pigs!

The last two days we were at the youth development center, helping kids from elementary age to late teens learn English. Zeth did great job! It’s tougher than it looks; not physically demanding like the concrete work, but we've learned it's challenging to hold the attention of a group of students. Add to it their very minimal knowledge of English and the stifling heat, we had to work at keeping our energy up as well as making it fun and meaningful for them

The youngest group taught us a new card game … adorable little Guatemalan card sharks.

And then … there is Tiny Dancer. The pig. Tiny Dancer the Jungle Pig has his own Facebook page with more than 700 friends.  (I think I have twelve.)

Tiny Dancer was the runt of the litter when our in-country coordinator Anne adopted him. Today he’s six, the only surviving pig of that batch as the others were long ago turned into food. He’s also the oldest pig in the village and weighs over 600 pounds.

Anne gives Dancer belly rubs, just like a dog.

In addition to a beautiful garden patio where he is free to roam, he he has his “daytime bed” and another one in her bedroom, where he sleeps at night.

Oh, and he has a pool!

A pig with a pool, two beds, a seriously cushy life and way more Facebook friends than me. (No, I’m not jealous at all.)

On the other end of the pig spectrum, we got to hold this tiny guy, just six weeks old.

Hanging out with adorable kids and baby pigs in Guatemala … what could be better?!
